01 "An Act relating to emergency compensation from the Violent Crimes Compensation                                         
02 Board."                                                                                                                 
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1. AS 18.67.120 is amended to read:                                                                      
05            Sec. 18.67.120. Emergency compensation. If it appears to the board, prior to                               
06       taking action on an application, that the claim is one for which compensation is                                  
07       probable, and undue hardship will result to the applicant if immediate payment is not                             
08       made, the board may make an emergency award of compensation to the applicant                                      
09       pending a final decision in the case. However,                                                                    
10                 (1)  the amount of the emergency compensation may not exceed $3,500                                 
11       [$1,500];                                                                                                         
12                 (2)  the amount of the emergency compensation shall be deducted from                                    
13       the final compensation made to the applicant;                                                                     
14                 (3)  the excess of the amount of the emergency compensation over the                                    

01       final amount shall be repaid by the applicant to the board.
