00 CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 213(EDC) 01 "An Act providing for funding for school lunch and breakfast." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 14.30 is amended by adding a new section to read: 04 Sec. 14.30.760. State funding for school lunch and breakfast. (a) To 05 supplement the cost of lunch and breakfast provided to each student in the district who 06 is eligible for a free or reduced-price lunch under 42 U.S.C. 1771 - 1784, in addition to 07 public school funding and subject to appropriation, the department shall provide 08 funding to a school district for lunch and for breakfast to each eligible student. To 09 implement this subsection, the department shall provide a base amount of 15 cents for 10 each lunch or 35 cents for each breakfast, to which amount the department shall add 11 an additional amount, expressed in cents and not applied as a cost factor, that is 12 determined by 13 (1) reducing the applicable district cost factor provided in 14 AS 14.17.460 by 1.0; and 15 (2) dividing the remainder determined under (1) of this subsection by

01 four; the department shall round to the nearest cent a quotient that is not a whole 02 number. 03 (b) Beginning July 1, 2011, the base amount under (a) of this section shall be 04 adjusted annually on October 1 according to changes in the Consumer Price Index for 05 all urban consumers for the Anchorage metropolitan area compiled by the United 06 States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics. The index for 2009 is the 07 reference base index for an adjustment made under this subsection. 08 * Sec. 2. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 09 read: 10 REVISOR'S INSTRUCTION. The revisor of statutes is instructed to change the 11 heading of art. 13 of AS 14.30 from "Alaska Challenge Youth Academy" to "State-Supported 12 Special Programs."
