00 CS FOR SENATE BILL NO. 19(CRA) 01 "An Act relating to complaints concerning peace officers and to notification to persons 02 filing complaints concerning peace officers." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 18.65 is amended by adding a new section to read: 05 Article 1A. Complaints Concerning State Peace Officers. 06 Sec. 18.65.120. Complaints against peace officers; notification to 07 complainants. The Department of Public Safety shall provide procedures for 08 (1) filing complaints against peace officers employed by the 09 department; the department may provide in the procedures that a person may receive 10 the notifications available in (2) of this section only if the person provides at least a 11 brief summary of the facts giving rise to the complaint and a statement that the person 12 believes that the summary and complaint are true and acknowledges that false 13 statements are punishable as unsworn falsification in the second degree; and 14 (2) notifying the complainant of
01 (A) the status or completion of the investigation; and 02 (B) whether the complaint was found to be valid. 03 * Sec. 2. AS 39.25.080 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 04 (f) Disclosures made to a complainant under AS 18.65.120 are not 05 confidential under this section.
