00 HOUSE BILL NO. 293 01 "An Act relating to qualifications for licensure as a veterinarian." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 08.98.165(a) is amended to read: 04 (a) An applicant is qualified to receive a license as a veterinarian who 05 (1) is a graduate of an accredited veterinary school or who is a 06 graduate of a nonaccredited veterinary school and has successfully completed a 07 certification program approved by the board [HAS SUCCESSFULLY 08 COMPLETED THE EDUCATIONAL COMMISSION FOR FOREIGN 09 VETERINARY GRADUATES CERTIFICATION PROCESS]; 10 (2) has, within the 60 months preceding application for the license, 11 passed a national examination for veterinarians approved by the board; 12 (3) has passed the written examination of the state on specific Alaska 13 issues of veterinary practice; 14 (4) is in good standing, as defined by the board in regulations; and 15 (5) has paid required fees.

01 * Sec. 2. AS 08.98.184 is amended to read: 02 Sec. 08.98.184. Licensure by credentials. The board shall approve the 03 issuance of a license to an applicant who holds a valid license to practice veterinary 04 medicine in another state, territory, or country if the applicant 05 (1) has graduated from an accredited school of veterinary medicine or 06 who has graduated from a nonaccredited veterinary school and has successfully 07 completed a certification program approved by the board [THE EDUCATIONAL 08 COMMISSION FOR FOREIGN VETERINARY GRADUATES CERTIFICATION 09 PROCESS]; 10 (2) has been engaged in the active practice of veterinary medicine for 11 at least five of the seven years before filing the application; 12 (3) has passed the written examination of the state on specific Alaska 13 issues of veterinary practice; 14 (4) is in good standing, as defined by the board in regulations; and 15 (5) has paid required fees.
