00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 2 01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska requiring an 02 affirmative vote of the people before any form of gambling for profit may be authorized 03 in Alaska. 04 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. Article XII, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a new 06 section to read: 07 Section 15. For-Profit Gambling. Any form of gaming or gambling for profit 08 is prohibited in the State unless that form of gaming or gambling has been authorized 09 by law and ratified by a sixty percent majority vote of the qualified voters of the State 10 who vote on the question. This section does not restrict the authorization of charitable 11 gaming conducted by charitable organizations if all profits of that gaming inure to the 12 charitable organization and those profits are only expended for charitable purposes. 13 * Sec. 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of the 14 state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the State 15 of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
