00 HOUSE BILL NO. 402 01 "An Act relating to elections; relating to the definition of 'political party'; and providing 02 for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 15.15.032 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 05 (d) If the director provides for voting by use of electronically generated 06 ballots, the director shall provide ballots in English, and may provide ballots in one or 07 more languages other than English. 08 * Sec. 2. AS 15.60.010(25) is amended to read: 09 (25) "political party" means an organized group of voters that 10 represents a political program and 11 (A) that nominated a candidate for governor at the preceding 12 general election who received at least 5,000 votes or three percent of the total 13 votes cast for governor, whichever is less, at that [THE PRECEDING] 14 general election [OR HAS REGISTERED VOTERS IN THE STATE EQUAL
01 IN NUMBER TO AT LEAST THREE PERCENT OF THE TOTAL VOTES 02 CAST FOR GOVERNOR AT THE PRECEDING GENERAL ELECTION]; 03 (B) if the office of governor was not on the ballot at the 04 preceding general election but the office of United States senator was on that 05 ballot, that nominated a candidate for United States senator who received at 06 least 5,000 votes or three percent of the total votes cast for United States 07 senator, whichever is less, at that general election [OR HAS REGISTERED 08 VOTERS IN THE STATE EQUAL IN NUMBER TO AT LEAST THREE 09 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL VOTES CAST FOR UNITED STATES 10 SENATOR AT THAT GENERAL ELECTION]; or 11 (C) if neither the office of governor nor the office of United 12 States senator was on the ballot at the preceding general election, that 13 nominated a candidate for United States representative who received at least 14 5,000 votes or three percent of the total votes cast for United States 15 representative, whichever is less, at that general election [OR HAS 16 REGISTERED VOTERS IN THE STATE EQUAL IN NUMBER TO AT 17 LEAST THREE PERCENT OF THE TOTAL VOTES CAST FOR UNITED 18 STATES REPRESENTATIVE AT THAT GENERAL ELECTION]; 19 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
