00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 336(RES) am 01 "An Act directing the Alaska Energy Authority to conduct a study of and to prepare a 02 proposal for an appropriately sized Susitna River hydroelectric power project; and 03 providing for an effective date." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 06 to read: 07 HYDROELECTRIC POWER STUDY. The Alaska Energy Authority, in consultation 08 with the Railbelt electric utilities, shall conduct a study of and prepare a proposal for a 09 hydroelectric power project on the Susitna River appropriately sized for the Railbelt area. In 10 conducting the study, the authority shall review prior studies and data regarding hydroelectric 11 power projects in the area. The authority shall present an interim report to the legislature not 12 later than February 15, 2009. If, at any point in the work process before the interim report is 13 due, the authority finds that the project is nonviable, work shall be halted, and a report with 14 those findings shall be immediately submitted to the legislature. Unless the authority finds,
01 before the interim report is due, that the project is nonviable, the authority shall present its 02 complete findings and a report assessing the viability of a hydroelectric power project, 03 including the estimated costs of the project, to the legislature not later than June 30, 2010. 04 * Sec. 2. This Act is repealed June 30, 2010. 05 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect July 1, 2008.
