00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 178(HES) 01 "An Act relating to the Governor's Committee on Employment of People with 02 Disabilities; and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 23.15.220 is amended to read: 05 Sec. 23.15.220. Purpose. The purpose of AS 23.15.220 - 23.15.320 is to create 06 a governor's committee on employment and rehabilitation of people with disabilities 07 for Alaska to carry on a continuing program to promote the employment of people of 08 the state with disabilities by creating statewide interest in the rehabilitation and 09 employment of people with disabilities, and by obtaining and maintaining cooperation 10 with public and private groups and individuals in this field. 11 * Sec. 2. AS 23.15.230 is amended to read: 12 Sec. 23.15.230. Appointment of committee. The governor's committee 13 consists of [NOT MORE THAN 12] members appointed by the governor for 14 staggered terms not exceeding three years. The number of members and
01 composition of the committee must be consistent with the requirements of 29 02 U.S.C. 725, as amended [THE COMMITTEE SHALL BE COMPOSED OF STATE 03 LEADERS OF INDUSTRY, BUSINESS, AGRICULTURE, LABOR, VETERANS, 04 WOMEN, RELIGIOUS, EDUCATIONAL, CIVIC, FRATERNAL, WELFARE, 05 SCIENTIFIC, MILITARY, MEDICAL, AND OTHER PROFESSIONS, OR AS 06 MANY OF THESE AND LIKE CATEGORIES AS MAY BE FEASIBLY 07 REPRESENTED]. A member may be reappointed and a vacancy shall be filled by the 08 governor. 09 * Sec. 3. AS 23.15.240 is amended to read: 10 Sec. 23.15.240. Selection [APPOINTMENT] and term of chair. The chair 11 shall be selected by the members of the committee from among the voting 12 members of the committee, subject to the disapproval of the governor. The chair 13 shall serve [GOVERNOR SHALL APPOINT A CHAIR OF THE COMMITTEE 14 WHO SERVES AS CHAIR] for one year or until a successor is selected 15 [APPOINTED]. 16 * Sec. 4. AS 23.15.260 is amended to read: 17 Sec. 23.15.260. Meetings. The committee shall meet at least once each 18 quarter [ANNUALLY], but, at the request of the governor special meetings may be 19 called. Meetings may be conducted telephonically, except that at least one meeting 20 each year shall be conducted in person. 21 * Sec. 5. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to 22 read: 23 REVISOR'S INSTRUCTION. The revisor of statutes is requested to change the 24 heading of art. 2 of AS 23.15 from "Governor's Committee on Employment of People with 25 Disabilities" to "Governor's Committee on Employment and Rehabilitation of People with 26 Disabilities." 27 * Sec. 6. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
