00 HOUSE BILL NO. 36 01 "An Act relating to the authority of registered nurses to assist in the training of persons 02 who seek to become emergency medical technicians or mobile intensive care 03 paramedics." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 08.64.107 is amended to read: 06 Sec. 08.64.107. Regulation of physician assistants and intensive care 07 paramedics. The board shall adopt regulations regarding the licensure of physician 08 assistants and registration of mobile intensive care paramedics, and the medical 09 services that they may perform, including the 10 (1) educational and other qualifications; 11 (2) application and registration procedures; 12 (3) scope of activities authorized; and 13 (4) responsibilities of the supervising physician or of the training 14 physician or registered nurse.

01 * Sec. 2. AS 08.64.107 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 02 (b) The regulations adopted under this section must include a provision that 03 allows a nurse to assist in training a person to become a registered mobile intensive 04 care paramedic if 05 (1) the nurse is licensed as a registered nurse under AS 08.68; and 06 (2) the training activity performed by the nurse is for a procedure that 07 is within the scope of the nurse's licensure. 08 * Sec. 3. AS 18.08.082 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 09 (c) The regulations adopted under (a) of this section that set the minimum 10 standards for a training course for a person who seeks certification as an emergency 11 medical technician must include a provision that allows a nurse to assist in the training 12 if 13 (1) the nurse is licensed as a registered nurse under AS 08.68; and 14 (2) the training activity performed by the nurse is for a procedure that 15 is within the scope of the nurse's licensure.
