00 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 21 01 Requesting the United States Congress to change the name of a proposed federal fund 02 for coastal plain impact aid. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS the United States Congress has under consideration legislation that 05 would create a fund to provide aid to the City of Kaktovik, the North Slope Borough, and any 06 other municipality, village, or community in the State of Alaska that is directly affected by 07 exploration for or production of oil or gas on the coastal plain in the Arctic National Wildlife 08 Refuge (ANWR); and 09 WHEREAS public notice and awareness are important aspects of government; and 10 WHEREAS the proposed name of the fund is the "Coastal Plain Local Government 11 Impact Aid Assistance Fund," and this implies that only local governments within the coastal 12 plain will have the benefit of the fund, which is not the case, since other local governments 13 and communities may qualify; 14 BE IT RESOLVED by the Alaska State Legislature that the members of the Alaska 15 delegation in Congress are respectfully requested to change the name of the proposed 16 "Coastal Plain Local Government Impact Aid Assistance Fund" to the "ANWR Development

01 Local Government Impact Aid Assistance Fund." 02 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Ted Stevens and the 03 Honorable Lisa Murkowski, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young, U.S. 04 Representative, members of the Alaska delegation in Congress.
