00 SENATE BILL NO. 185 01 "An Act relating to teachers and public employees who take leaves of absence without 02 pay." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 14.20.345 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 05 (g) The governing body of the district that employs a teacher shall notify the 06 division of retirement and benefits as soon as a teacher has taken a leave or leaves of 07 absence without pay that causes the teacher to have fewer than 172 accumulated 08 working days in a school year. The division of retirement and benefits shall 09 immediately provide each teacher with information on the effect of a leave of absence 10 on credited service under the teachers' retirement system and options available to the 11 teacher to obtain service credit. 12 * Sec. 2. AS 39.35.330 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 13 (e) The employer of an employee shall notify the division of retirement and 14 benefits as soon as an employee has taken a leave or leaves of absence without pay
01 exceeding 10 accumulated working days in any calendar year. The division of 02 retirement and benefits shall immediately provide each employee with information on 03 the effect of a leave of absence on credited service under the public employees' 04 retirement system and options available to the employee to obtain service credit.
