00 SENATE BILL NO. 90 01 "An Act relating to Alaska Territorial Guard Day." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 04 to read: 05 FINDINGS. The Alaska State Legislature finds that 06 (1) the Alaska Territorial Guard, made up of some 6,500 Alaskans who were 07 predominantly Alaska Natives, served in defense of Alaska from 1942 through World War II 08 and until 1947; 09 (2) on October 18, 2004, the first members of the Alaska Territorial Guard 10 were recognized as veterans by the United States Army; 11 (3) it is appropriate that the State of Alaska commemorate the service of the 12 Alaska Territorial Guard to the people of Alaska. 13 * Sec. 2. AS 44.12 is amended by adding a new section to read: 14 Sec. 44.12.083. Alaska Territorial Guard Day. Alaska Territorial Guard 15 Day is established on October 18 of each year to acknowledge and commemorate the

01 service of the members of the Alaska Territorial Guard in defense of Alaska and the 02 United States during World War II. The governor shall issue a proclamation to 03 commemorate Alaska Territorial Guard Day. The day may be observed by suitable 04 observances and exercises by civic groups and the public.
