00 HOUSE BILL NO. 166 01 "An Act relating to a program to honor a deceased veteran's military service." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 26.10 is amended by adding a new section to read: 04 Sec. 26.10.085. Governor's memorial certificate program. (a) Upon 05 request of the governor, the adjutant general of the Department of Military and 06 Veterans' Affairs may conduct a program for honoring the memory of a deceased 07 veteran who was discharged under honorable conditions by preparing and sending to 08 an eligible recipient a certificate bearing the signature of the governor and expressing 09 the state's grateful recognition of the veteran's service in the armed forces, the Alaska 10 National Guard, the Alaska Scouts, the Alaska State Defense Force, or the Alaska 11 Naval Militia. The award of a certificate to one eligible recipient does not preclude 12 authorization of another certificate if a request is received from another eligible 13 recipient. 14 (b) In this section, 15 (1) "eligible recipient" means the surviving spouse, next of kin, or
