01 "An Act relating to minimum periods of imprisonment for the crime of assault in the                                     
02 fourth degree committed on school grounds, on a school bus, at a school-sponsored                                       
03 event, or at certain school district administration offices."                                                           
04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
05    * Section 1. AS 12.55.135(d) is amended to read:                                                                   
06            (d)  A defendant convicted of assault in the fourth degree who knowingly                                     
07       directed the conduct constituting the offense at                                                                  
08                 (1)  a uniformed or otherwise clearly identified peace officer, fire                                
09       fighter, correctional employee, emergency medical technician, paramedic, ambulance                                
10       attendant, or other emergency responder who was engaged in the performance of                                     
11       official duties at the time of the assault shall be sentenced to a minimum term of                                
12       imprisonment of                                                                                                   
13                      (A) [(1)]  60 days if the defendant violated AS 11.41.230(a)(1)                                
14            or (2);                                                                                                      

01                      (B) [(2)]  30 days if the defendant violated AS 11.41.230(a)(3);                           
02                 (2)  a person who was on school grounds during school hours or                                      
03       during a school function or a school-sponsored event, on a school bus, at a school-                           
04       sponsored event, or in the administrative offices of a school district, if students                           
05       are educated at that office, shall be sentenced to a minimum term of                                          
06       imprisonment of 60 days if the defendant violated AS 11.41.230(a)(1) or (2); in                               
07       this paragraph,                                                                                               
08                      (A)  "school bus" has the meaning given in AS 11.71.900;                                       
09                      (B)  "school district" has the meaning given in                                                
10            AS 47.07.063;                                                                                            
11                      (C)  "school grounds" has the meaning given in                                                 
12            AS 11.71.900.
