01 Expressing confidence in and support for all members of the military, their families, and                               
02 employers of members of the National Guard.

04 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                             
05      WHEREAS many members of the Alaska National Guard and many Alaskans serving                                      
06 in our active forces have been assigned to duty overseas to assist people in countries around                           
07 the world, end the threat of terrorism, prepare for the very real threat of war, and deal with                          
08 threats against our nation; and                                                                                         
09      WHEREAS members of the Alaska National Guard, their families, their employers,                                 
10 and active duty members of the military make tremendous sacrifices every day in their service                           
11 to our country and to our state; and                                                                                    
12      WHEREAS the members of the Alaska National Guard and active duty members of                                      
13 the military are well trained, well led, and committed to protecting and serving the citizens of                        
14 the United States and their interests abroad; and                                                                       
15      WHEREAS members of the Alaska National Guard, active duty members of the                                         
16 military, and their families make important contributions to the State of Alaska while they are                         

01 stationed here; and                                                                                                     
02      WHEREAS the security of our nation, our state, and our citizens depends on the                                   
03 willingness of these brave men and women to put themselves in harm's way;                                               
04      BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature recognizes the commitment of                                    
05 the members of the Alaska Army National Guard, the Alaska Air National Guard, and active                                
06 duty members of the military, and expresses its support for these gallant defenders of                                  
07 freedom; and be it                                                                                                      
08      FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Twenty-Third Alaska State                                               
09 Legislature express their gratitude for the sacrifices of the families and, in the case of the                          
10 National Guard, the civilian employers of our men and women in uniform; and be it                                       
11      FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Twenty-Third Alaska State                                               
12 Legislature express their sincere hope and trust that all members of the Alaska National Guard                          
13 and active duty members of the military return safely to their families from wherever they                              
14 may be assigned.                                                                                                        
15      COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable George W. Bush, President                               
16 of the United States; the Honorable Donald Rumsfeld, United States Secretary of Defense;                                
17 General Richard B. Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; General Peter Pace, Vice                               
18 Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; General Eric K. Shinseki, Chief of Staff of the Army;                            
19 Admiral Vern Clark, Chief of Naval Operations; General James L. Jones, Commandant of the                                
20 Marine Corps; Lieutenant General Carrol H. "Howie" Chandler, Commander, Alaskan                                         
21 Command; Brigadier General Craig Campbell, Adjutant General, Alaska Department of                                       
22 Military and Veterans' Affairs; and to the Honorable Ted Stevens and the Honorable Lisa                                 
23 Murkowski, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young, U.S. Representative, members of                                  
24 the Alaska delegation in Congress.
