00                  SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 14                                                                   
01 Relating to requesting the Governor to negotiate a 40-hour workweek with state                                          
02 employees.                                                                                                              
03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04       WHEREAS a 40-hour workweek is a standard workweek throughout most industries                                    
05 in Alaska and the rest of the United States; and                                                                        
06       WHEREAS a 40-hour workweek would result in a seven percent increase in state                                    
07 employee productivity; and                                                                                              
08       WHEREAS a 40-hour work week would increase public confidence in the efficiency                                  
09 and productivity of state employees; and                                                                                
10       WHEREAS other industries are looking at similar measures to increase productivity                               
11 and efficiency;                                                                                                         
12       BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature requests the Governor to                                       
13 negotiate a 40-hour workweek with state employees; and be it                                                            
14       FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor implement this standard workweek at no                                       
15 increased cost to the general fund.
