00 SENATE BILL NO. 180 01 "An Act establishing the Safety Code Task Force; and providing for an effective date." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 04 to read: 05 SAFETY CODE TASK FORCE. (a) There is established in the legislative branch of 06 state government the Safety Code Task Force. The task force shall consist of nine voting 07 members, as follows: 08 (1) one member appointed by the president of the senate; 09 (2) one member appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives; 10 (3) one member appointed by the governor; 11 (4) the following members appointed jointly by the president of the senate and 12 the speaker of the house of representatives: 13 (A) one member representing the construction design community; 14 (B) one member representing the construction engineering community; 15 (C) one member representing construction general contractors;

01 (D) one member representing construction mechanical contractors; 02 (E) one member representing construction electrical contractors; and 03 (F) one member representing construction plumbing contractors. 04 (b) The task force shall discuss the features of the available published safety codes 05 and recommend one family of codes to be adopted for the state. 06 (c) The governor shall appoint a person from the Division of Occupational Licensing 07 in the Department of Community and Economic Development, a person from the Division of 08 Fire Prevention in the Department of Public Safety, and a person from the Department of 09 Labor and Workforce Development to act as an advisory panel to the task force. The advisory 10 panel may only participate in the operations of the task force by providing advice to the 11 members of the task force on how the issues addressed by the task force currently affect the 12 advisory panel members' respective agencies and how any proposals would affect those 13 agencies in the future. 14 (d) The members of the task force appointed under (a)(1) and (2) shall serve as co- 15 chairs of the task force. 16 (e) The task force shall meet as frequently as its members determine necessary to 17 perform the task force's work and may meet during the interim between sessions. The task 18 force may meet and vote by teleconference. 19 (f) The members of the task force appointed under (a) of this section are not eligible 20 for compensation but are entitled to per diem and travel expenses authorized for boards and 21 commissions under AS 39.20.180. 22 (g) The task force shall submit a written report of its findings and recommendations to 23 the legislature on or before the first day of the Second Regular Session of the Twenty-Third 24 Alaska State Legislature. 25 * Sec. 2. This Act is repealed on the first legislative day of the Second Regular Session of 26 the Twenty-Third Alaska State Legislature. 27 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
