HCR 13: Relating to the location of the state's new seafood laboratory.

00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 13 01 Relating to the location of the state's new seafood laboratory. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS Governor Murkowski, in his recent state of the budget address, stated 04 that the state must reduce its budget due to the current state budget crisis; and 05 WHEREAS the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority owns the 06 Alaska Seafood International Building in Anchorage and leases the building to Alaska 07 Seafood International; and 08 WHEREAS Alaska Seafood International is not fully utilizing the more than 250,000 09 square feet in the Alaska Seafood International Building; and 10 WHEREAS the planning for a seafood laboratory is in the beginning stages; and 11 WHEREAS agents for Alaska Seafood International have stated that Alaska Seafood 12 International would welcome the incorporation of the new seafood laboratory into the Alaska 13 Seafood International Building; and 14 WHEREAS the Alaska State Legislature has been asked to appropriate $14,285,000 15 for a new seafood laboratory; and 16 WHEREAS, in this time of budgetary crisis, the money saved by incorporating the

01 seafood laboratory into an existing building can be reappropriated to other needy capital 02 projects around the state; 03 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature requests that the Department of 04 Environmental Conservation and the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities work 05 with the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority and Alaska Seafood 06 International to incorporate the new seafood laboratory into the underutilized Alaska Seafood 07 International Building, and thereby save money that can be appropriated to other needed 08 capital projects in the state. 09 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Ernesta Ballard, 10 Commissioner, Department of Environmental Conservation; the Honorable Mike Barton, 11 Commissioner, Department of Transportation and Public Facilities; and Ronald W. Miller, 12 Executive Director, Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority.
