01 Establishing an office of citizenship assistance in the Department of Labor and Workforce                               
02 Development.

04    * Section 1.  AS 23.05 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
05            Sec. 23.05.125.  Office of citizenship assistance.  (a)  The office of                                     
06       citizenship assistance is established in the office of the commissioner.  The office shall                        
07                 (1)  provide employment information and referrals to services for legal                                 
08       aliens, including employment services, such as job placement services, and                                        
09       information about how labor unions, administrative agencies, and court actions may be                             
10       used to deal with claims or charges of job discrimination, illegal termination of                                 
11       employment, sexual harassment, and unsafe working conditions; and                                                 
12                 (2)  advise the commissioner on                                                                         
13                      (A)  improving employment opportunities for legal aliens;                                          
14                      (B)  preventing employment discrimination against legal aliens;                                    

01            and                                                                                                          
02                      (C)  cooperating with state and federal agencies to accomplish                                     
03            the office's mission.                                                                                        
04            (b)  In this section, "legal alien" means an individual who resides in Alaska, is                            
05       not a citizen of the United States, and is in compliance with the individual's federal                            
06       visa requirements.
