01 "An Act exempting certain teachers at certain schools from jury service during school                                   
02 terms; and amending Rule 15(k), Alaska Rules of Administration."                                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 09.20.030 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                          
05            (b)  A person may claim exemption and shall be excused by the court from                                     
06       service as a juror during the school term if it is shown that the person is a teacher in a                        
07       school that is designated as failing to make adequate yearly progress under P.L. 107-                             
08       110.  In this subsection, "teacher" means a person who serves a school district in a                              
09       teaching capacity in a classroom setting and is required to be certificated in order to                           
10       hold the position.                                                                                                
11    * Sec. 2.  The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section to                         
12 read:                                                                                                                   
13       INDIRECT COURT RULE AMENDMENT.  AS 09.20.030(b), added by sec. 1 of                                               
14 this Act, has the effect of amending Rule 15(k), Alaska Rules of Administration, by                                     

01 establishing an additional cause for exemption from jury service.
