01 "An Act relating to the use of pharmaceutical agents by optometrists."                                                  
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1.  AS 08.72.272(a) is amended to read:                                                                  
04            (a)  A licensee may prescribe and use a pharmaceutical agent, including a                                
05       controlled substance, as defined in AS 11.71.900, in the practice of optometry if                             
06                 (1)  the pharmaceutical agent is not a schedule IA controlled                                       
07       substance, as defined in AS 11.71.900;                                                                        
08                 (2)  the pharmaceutical agent is prescribed and used for the                                        
09       treatment of ocular disease or conditions, ocular adnexal disease or conditions, or                           
10       emergency anaphylaxis [A DRUG TOPICALLY APPLIED TO THE HUMAN EYE                                              
11       AND ITS APPENDAGES]; and                                                                                          
12                 (3) [(2)]  the person holds a license endorsement issued by the board                               
13       authorizing the prescription and use of pharmaceutical agents.
