00 HOUSE BILL NO. 91 01 "An Act relating to a cost-of-living allowance and medical benefits for retired peace 02 officers after 20 years of credited service." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 39.35.480(a) is amended to read: 05 (a) While residing in the state, a person receiving a benefit under this chapter 06 who is 65 years of age or older, [OR WHO] is receiving a disability benefit, or has at 07 least 20 years of credited service as a peace officer under AS 39.35.360 and 08 39.35.370 is entitled to receive a monthly cost-of-living allowance in addition to the 09 basic benefit. The amount of this allowance shall be $50 or 10 percent of the basic 10 benefit, whichever is greater. 11 * Sec. 2. AS 39.35.535(c) is amended to read: 12 (c) A benefit recipient may elect major medical insurance coverage in 13 accordance with regulations and under the following conditions: 14 (1) a person, other than a disabled member or a disabled member who
01 is appointed to normal retirement, must pay an amount equal to the full monthly group 02 premium for retiree major medical insurance coverage if the person is 03 (A) younger than 60 years of age and has less than 04 (i) 20 [25] years of credited service as a peace officer 05 under AS 39.35.360 and 39.35.370; or 06 (ii) 30 years of credited service under AS 39.35.360 and 07 39.35.370 that is not service as a peace officer; or 08 (B) of any age and has less than 10 years of credited service; 09 (2) a person is not required to make premium payments for retiree 10 major medical coverage if the person 11 (A) is a disabled member; 12 (B) is a disabled member who is appointed to normal 13 retirement; 14 (C) is 60 years of age or older and has at least 10 years of 15 credited service; or 16 (D) has at least 17 (i) 20 [25] years of credited service as a peace officer 18 under AS 39.35.360 and 39.35.370; or 19 (ii) 30 years of credited service under AS 39.35.360 and 20 39.35.370 not as a peace officer.
