01 "An Act naming state ferries."                                                                                          
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1.  AS 35.40 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
04            Sec. 35.40.150.  State ferries.  The Motor Vessel Fairweather and the Motor                                
05       Vessel Chenega are authorized names for state ferries first operating as part of the                              
06       Alaska marine highway system on or after the effective date of this section.  The                                 
07       commissioner of transportation and public facilities shall select between the names for                           
08       the one most appropriate to the route served by the ferry and shall publicly announce                             
09       the selection.
