01 "An Act relating to statewide school district correspondence study and state supported                                  
02 home schooling programs."                                                                                               
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS 14.07 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
05            Sec. 14.07.175.  Powers relating to statewide school district                                              
06       correspondence study.  (a)  The board may adopt regulations regarding statewide                                 
07       school district correspondence study programs.  A regulation applicable to a statewide                            
08       school district correspondence study program                                                                      
09                 (1)  may not require that the correspondence study program be                                           
10       approved by the department more than once every 10 years; this paragraph does not                                 
11       apply to a statewide school district correspondence study program if the statewide                                
12       school district correspondence study program is designated as deficient or in crisis                              
13       under AS 14.03.123(a);                                                                                            
14                 (2)  must provide that an enrolled student shall be monitored at periodic                               

01       intervals as established by the school district; and                                                              
02                 (3)  must provide that the school district conducting the correspondence                                
03       program has the duty and authority to approve or disapprove correspondence                                        
04       curriculum materials.                                                                                             
05            (b)  In this section, "statewide school district correspondence study program"                               
06       includes a state supported home-schooling program.
