00 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 34 01 Requesting the members of the Alaska delegation in the United States Senate to urge the 02 Majority Leader of the United States Senate to allow President George W. Bush's 03 economic security package to receive a vote. 04 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 WHEREAS President George W. Bush has proposed a bipartisan economic security 06 package to protect jobs; and 07 WHEREAS President Bush's plan reduces taxes for low and moderate income 08 households, ensuring that the most vulnerable workers will have more money in their pockets; 09 and 10 WHEREAS President Bush's plan promotes new job creation; and 11 WHEREAS President Bush's plan provides $3,000,000,000 in special national 12 emergency grants to help displaced workers maintain health coverage, supplement their 13 income, and receive job training; and 14 WHEREAS President Bush's plan makes $11,000,000,000 available to states to help 15 low income workers obtain health insurance; and

01 WHEREAS President Bush's plan encourages affected workers to take advantage of 02 more than $6,000,000,000 in existing federal job search, training, and placement programs; 03 and 04 WHEREAS President Bush's plan encourages businesses to invest in new equipment 05 and resources, allowing them to make purchases they might not otherwise have been able to 06 afford; and 07 WHEREAS President Bush's plan gives consumers more to spend and invest and 08 gives businesses and entrepreneurs more resources to help them retain or create more jobs; 09 and 10 WHEREAS President Bush's plan reduces taxes for low and moderate income 11 households, which is in addition to relief already approved by the U.S. Congress, ensuring 12 that the most vulnerable workers will have more money in their pockets; and 13 WHEREAS the economic security package has passed the U.S. House of 14 Representatives twice and has bipartisan majority support in the U.S. Senate; 15 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests the 16 members of the Alaska delegation in the U.S. Senate to urge the Honorable Thomas Daschle, 17 Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate, to allow President Bush's economic security package to 18 receive a vote. 19 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Ted Stevens and the 20 Honorable Frank Murkowski, U.S. Senators and members of the Alaska delegation in 21 Congress.
