00 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 20 01 Relating to declaring September 11, 2002, as Emergency Service Providers and Armed 02 Forces Appreciation Day. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS 343 New York City firefighters, many of whom were climbing resolutely 05 toward the upper floors of the buildings in an effort to stem the fire and rescue building 06 occupants when the towers collapsed, were lost in the attack on the World Trade Center on 07 September 11, 2001; and 08 WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the World Trade Center tragedy, hundreds more 09 firefighters, paramedics, police officers, members of the National Guard, and other emergency 10 response personnel, including many individuals from Alaska, have participated selflessly in 11 the rescue and cleanup efforts; and 12 WHEREAS firefighters, emergency medical technicians, police officers, members of 13 the National Guard, and other uniformed service personnel across the state of Alaska stand 14 ready to serve every day; and 15 WHEREAS the tragic events of September 11 remind us of the tremendous 16 contribution of these highly trained and dedicated individuals to our society and way of life;

01 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature honors the emergency service 02 providers and armed forces personnel of Alaska for their courage, sacrifice, and dedication in 03 serving Alaskans; and be it 04 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature respectfully requests the 05 governor to proclaim September 11, 2002, as Emergency Service Providers and Armed 06 Forces Appreciation Day; and be it 07 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature encourages all public and 08 private agencies and citizens of the state to show their appreciation for the state's emergency 09 service providers and armed forces personnel on September 11, 2002.
