00 CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 504(FIN) 01 "An Act relating to the wages of people working in the fisheries business." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 23.10 is amended by adding a new section to read: 04 Sec. 23.10.072. Wages for fisheries businesses. An employer who engages 05 in a fisheries business, as that term is defined in AS 43.75.290, may deduct an amount 06 that is reasonable and without profit to the employer each paid day worked from the 07 applicable minimum wage paid to an employee working in the fisheries business for 08 the combined cost of board and lodging the employer furnishes to the employee. A 09 deduction up to $15 each day for combined room and board shall be presumed to be a 10 reasonable amount without profit to the employer. The department shall allow a 11 deduction higher than $15 each day for combined room and board if the employer 12 demonstrates to the department that the cost to the employee is reasonable and without 13 profit to the employer. A deduction made under this section may be made only if it is 14 based on a negotiated union agreement or a written agreement with the employee 15 entered into at the time of hire that specifies the daily rate of deductions for room and
