01 "An Act relating to contributions from permanent fund dividends for municipal school                                    
02 districts and regional educational attendance areas; and providing for an effective                                     
03 date."                                                                                                                  
04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
05    * Section 1.  AS 43.23 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
06            Sec. 43.23.017.  Contribution from dividends.  (a)  The department shall                                   
07       prepare the permanent fund dividend application to allow an applicant to direct that                              
08       money be subtracted from the dividend check and contributed to the municipal school                               
09       district or regional educational attendance area in which the applicant resides.  The                             
10       applicant may choose to contribute 10 percent, 30 percent, or 50 percent of the                                   
11       dividend that the applicant would otherwise receive.  The department shall deliver the                            
12       contribution to the municipal school district or regional educational attendance area in                          
13       accordance with the contribution directions.                                                                      
14    * Sec. 2.  This Act takes effect January 1, 2003.
