00SENATE BILL NO. 247 01 "An Act relating to eligibility of certain veterans for longevity bonus payments; 02 and providing for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 47.45.070(c) is amended to read: 05  (c) Notwithstanding (a)(2) of this section, a person who resides in a nursing 06 home who meets the age and residence requirements of this chapter qualifies for the 07 bonus if the costs of care of the person at the nursing home are paid for entirely from 08 private sources , veterans' benefits, or a combination of private sources and 09 veterans' benefits . 10 * Sec. 2. The uncodified law of the State of Alaska is amended by adding a new section 11 to read: 12 REAPPLICATIONS FOR LONGEVITY BONUS PAYMENTS. Notwithstanding 13 AS 47.45.045, a veteran who qualified to receive a monthly longevity bonus payment under 14 AS 47.45.010 before January 1, 1997, but was later disqualified under AS 47.45.070 may

01 reapply for qualification for bonus payments. If the Department of Administration determines 02 that the veteran is eligible for bonus payments under AS 47.45.070(c), as amended in sec. 1 03 of this Act, and is otherwise eligible, the amount of the veteran's monthly bonus shall be the 04 amount the veteran was receiving before reapplying under this section. A reapplication under 05 this section must be submitted to the department before January 1, 2001. 06 * Sec. 3. This Act takes effect July 1, 2000.
