01 "An Act relating to the granting authority of and extending the termination date                                        
02 of the Alaska regional economic assistance program; and providing for an effective                                      
03 date."                                                                                                                  
04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
05    * Section 1.  AS 44.33.895(b) is amended to read:                                                                  
06  (b) Subject to (c) of this section, the department may make regional                                                  
07 development grants to organizations for projects the department determines will be of                                   
08 value in encouraging economic development.  During a fiscal year, the department may                                    
09 make no more than  17  [15] grants and may only make grants to one organization from                                  
10 a particular region.  An organization that is designated an economic development                                        
11 district under 42 U.S.C. 3171 qualifies for grants under this subsection.  The                                          
12 department shall by regulation adopt procedures for applying for regional development                                   
13 grants, including application deadlines.  The department may by regulation establish                                    
14 additional grant eligibility requirements.                                                                              

01    * Sec. 2.  Section 85, ch. 58, SLA 1999 is amended to read:                                                        
02  Sec. 85.  REPEALER.  AS 44.19.620, 44.19.621, 44.19.622, 44.19.623,                                                   
03 44.19.624, 44.19.625, 44.19.626, 44.19.627; AS 44.29.020(a)(14); [AS 44.33.895,                                         
04 ADDED BY SEC. 64 OF THIS ACT;] and AS 47.35.010(b), 47.35.015(a),                                                       
05 47.35.043(b), 47.35.900(4), 47.35.900(5) are repealed July 1, 2000.                                                     
06    * Sec. 3.  Section 85, ch. 58, SLA 1999 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                             
07  (b)  AS 44.33.895, added by sec. 64 of this Act, is repealed July 1, 2003.                                            
08    * Sec. 4.  This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
