00HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 6 01 Establishing a House Special Committee on Electric Utility Restructuring. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: 03 WHEREAS electricity is among modern society's most basic requirements and 04 commodities; and 05 WHEREAS even other forms of infrastructure, such as water and waste water systems, 06 are largely dependent on electricity; and 07 WHEREAS the provision of adequate, reliable, and reasonably priced electrical energy 08 is essential to the daily functions, safety, and economic well-being of Alaskans, their local 09 communities, and the state; and 10 WHEREAS fundamental restructuring of the electric utility industry is now under 11 deliberation in other states; and 12 WHEREAS electric utility restructuring is a highly complex issue, carrying with it 13 profound implications for all classes of electrical consumers; and 14 WHEREAS the implications and ramifications of such restructuring deserve detailed,

01 careful, and informed decision making by the Alaska State Legislature; 02 BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives that a House Special Committee 03 on Electric Utility Restructuring is established; and be it 04 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall 05 determine the number of members of the committee, appoint the members, and designate a 06 member to chair the committee; and be it 07 FURTHER RESOLVED that the House Special Committee on Electric Utility 08 Restructuring may meet during and between sessions of the Twenty-First Alaska State 09 Legislature and is terminated on the convening of the First Session of the Twenty-Second 10 Alaska State Legislature.
