00HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 25 01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to 02 a petition for an initiative or referendum regarding fish or wildlife. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article XI, sec. 3, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05  Section 3. Petition. After certification of the application, a petition containing 06 a summary of the subject matter shall be prepared by the lieutenant governor for 07 circulation by the sponsors. If signed by qualified voters, equal in number to ten per 08 cent of those who voted in the preceding general election and resident in at least two- 09 thirds of the house districts of the State, it may be filed with the lieutenant governor. 10 However, the lieutenant governor may not accept for filing a petition relating to the 11 utilization, development, or conservation of fish or wildlife unless the petition is signed 12 by qualified voters resident in each house district of the State and the number of signers 13 resident in each house district is equal in number to at least ten percent of those who 14 voted in the preceding general election in that house district.

01 * Sec. 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of 02 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the 03 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
