00CS FOR SPONSOR SUBSTITUTE FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 379(STA) 01 "An Act relating to credited service under the public employees' retirement system 02 for peace officers and fire fighters receiving workers' compensation benefits because 03 of certain on-the-job injuries." 04 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 05 * Section 1. AS 39.35.370 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 06  (g) When a member applies for appointment to retirement, the member may 07 claim credited service for days that the member was not employed and was receiving 08 workers' compensation benefits under AS 23.30 because of a physical injury incurred 09 while employed as a peace officer or fire fighter in a position covered by the public 10 employees' retirement system. When the member claims this credited service, an 11 indebtedness of the member to the system shall be established. The indebtedness is 12 equal to the full actuarial cost of receiving the credited service. Any outstanding 13 indebtedness that exists at the time the member is appointed to retirement will require 14 an actuarial adjustment to the benefits payable based upon the credited service.
