00CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 192(JUD) 01 "An Act relating to reciting the pledge of allegiance by public school students." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 14.03.130 is amended to read: 04  Sec. 14.03.130. Display of flags and pledge of allegiance [FLAG]. United 05 States and Alaska flags shall be displayed upon or near each principal school building 06 during school hours and at other times the governing body considers proper. The 07 governing body shall require that the pledge of allegiance be recited regularly, 08 as determined by the governing body. A person may recite the following salute 09 to the flag of the United States or maintain a respectful silence: "I pledge 10 allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for 11 which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for 12 all." 13 * Sec. 2. AS 14.30.130 is amended by adding a new subsection to read: 14  (b) A school district shall inform all affected persons at the school of their

01 right not to participate in the pledge of allegiance. The exercise of the right not to 02 participate in the pledge of allegiance may not be used to evaluate a student or 03 employee or for any other purpose.
