00CS FOR SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 42(JUD)                                                                            
01 Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the State of Alaska relating to                                           
02 marriage.                                                                                                               
03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                              
04    * Section 1.  Article I, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a new                           
05 section to read:                                                                                                        
06  Section 25.  Marriage.  To be valid or recognized in this State, a marriage                                         
07 may exist only between one man and one woman.  No provision of this Constitution                                        
08 may be interpreted to require the State to recognize or permit marriage between                                         
09 individuals of the same sex.  Additional requirements related to marriage may be                                        
10 established to the extent permitted by the Constitution of the United States and the                                    
11 Constitution of the State of Alaska.                                                                                    
12    * Sec. 2.  The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of                          
13 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the                        
14 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
