00SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 9 01 Declaring June 1 - 7, 1997, to be Alaska Garden Week. 02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 WHEREAS gardening instills an appreciation of nature and an awareness of the value 04 of conservation and the need for pollution control, as well as enhancing the environment; and 05 WHEREAS this awareness and this appreciation heighten each citizen's sense of 06 responsibility and trusteeship for this great state; and 07 WHEREAS gardening efforts bring beauty to communities and promote individual and 08 community pride; and 09 WHEREAS gardening furnishes a challenging and productive full or part-time activity 10 for a large number of citizens in this state and yields a great variety of flowers of breathtaking 11 beauty that enhance the state's appearance; and 12 WHEREAS the gardeners of this state produce a large quantity of food for its citizens 13 and have established and continue to sustain more than $28,000,000 in horticultural business 14 in this state;

01 BE IT RESOLVED that, in order to recognize the importance of gardening to the 02 state, the Alaska State Legislature declares June 1 - 7, 1997, Alaska Garden Week; and be it 03 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature encourages all Alaskans 04 to observe Alaska Garden Week by recognizing the importance of gardening to the state's 05 economy, to the enhancement of neighborhoods in the state, to the improvement of the mental 06 and physical well-being of the citizens of this state, and to the promotion of civic pride 07 throughout the state.
