01 "An Act relating to special request Alaska Zoo license plates."                                                         
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03    * Section 1.  AS 28.10.181 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                          
04  (t)  Special request Alaska Zoo plates.  Upon application by the owner of a                                           
05 passenger vehicle, noncommercial van or pick-up truck, or motor home, the department                                    
06 may design and issue registration plates representing the Alaska Zoo.  The department                                   
07 may disapprove the issuance of registration plates under this subsection when the                                       
08 requested plates are a duplication of an existing registration.                                                         
09    * Sec. 2.  AS 28.10.421(d) is amended by adding a new paragraph to read:                                           
10   (14)  special request Alaska Zoo plates . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$50                                   
11 plus the fee required for that vehicle under (b)(1) or (2) of this section; the fee                                    
12 required by this paragraph shall be collected only on the first issuance and on the                                     
13 replacement of special request plates; the commissioner of administration shall                                         
14 separately account for the fees received under this paragraph that the department                                       

01 deposits in the general fund; notwithstanding (g) of this section, the annual estimated                                 
02 balance in the account that is in excess of the cost of issuing special request plates                                  
03 may be appropriated by the legislature for the support of programs benefiting the care                                  
04 and display of wild animals in zoos in the state.
