HCR 32: Supporting the development of a light rail system to serve the corridor between the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Anchorage.

00HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 32 01 Supporting the development of a light rail system to serve the corridor between 02 the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Anchorage. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS a large volume of commuter vehicles travel each day between the 05 Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Anchorage; and 06 WHEREAS it is necessary to develop transportation alternatives to the automobile to 07 serve the corridor between the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Anchorage; and 08 WHEREAS the development of a light rail system between the Matanuska-Susitna 09 Valley and Anchorage would decrease the volume of automobile traffic between these points, 10 reduce the number of automobile accidents and collisions with moose on the roads between 11 these points, and lessen the burden on the road system between these points; and 12 WHEREAS the development of a light rail system to serve the corridor between the 13 Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Anchorage would contribute to the improvement of air quality 14 in the Anchorage Bowl;

01 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature expresses its support for the 02 development of a light rail system to serve the corridor between the Matanuska-Susitna Valley 03 and Anchorage. 04 COPIES of this resolution shall be sent to the Honorable Kenneth R. Wykle, 05 Administrator, Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation; the 06 commissioner of transportation and public facilities; the mayor of the Municipality of 07 Anchorage; the mayor of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the president of the Wasilla-Palmer 08 Chamber of Commerce; and the president of the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce.
