00HOUSE BILL NO. 387 01 "An Act relating to dentists." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 08.36.070(a) is amended to read: 04  (a) The board shall 05  (1) provide for the examination of applicants and issue licenses to those 06 applicants it finds qualified; 07  (2) register licensed dentists and licensed dental hygienists who are in 08 good standing; 09  (3) report annually to the governor and the department on the board's 10 proceedings during the year, findings concerning the standards and availability of 11 dental services in the state including the number of licensees, examination, and 12 licensing activities, other matters related to dental practice, and board receipts and 13 expenditures; 14  (4) affiliate with the American Association of Dental Examiners [,] and

01 pay annual dues to the association; 02  (5) hold hearings [,] and order the disciplinary sanction of a person who 03 violates this chapter, AS 08.32, or a regulation of the board; 04  (6) supply forms for applications, licenses, permits, certificates, and 05 other papers and records; 06  (7) enforce the provisions of this chapter and AS 08.32 and adopt or 07 amend the regulations necessary to make the provisions of this chapter and AS 08.32 08 effective; 09  (8) adopt regulations ensuring that renewal of registration is contingent 10 upon proof of continued professional competence by a licensed dentist or licensed 11 dental hygienist; 12  (9) provide the department with the requirements for proof of continued 13 professional competence and request the department to make these requirements 14 available to each licensed dentist and licensed dental hygienist at least one year before 15 the date on which the dentist or dental hygienist must renew registration; 16  (10) at least annually cause to be published in a newspaper of general 17 circulation in each major city in the state a summary of disciplinary actions the board 18 has taken during the preceding calendar year; 19  (11) issue permits or certificates to licensed dentists, licensed dental 20 hygienists, and dental assistants who meet standards determined by the board for 21 specific procedures that require specific education and training; 22  (12) regulate the reentry into practice of inactive dentists and dental 23 hygienists; 24  (13) require, as a condition of a license or license renewal issued by 25 the board, that an applicant or licensee has , at the time of licensing or renewal and 26 maintains throughout the period of a license , current certification in cardiopulmonary 27 resuscitation techniques , except that the board may waive this requirement under 28 an agreement with the applicant or licensee if the agreement specifies that the 29 applicant or licensee will ensure that another person who is certified in 30 cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques will be in the same room as the 31 applicant or licensee whenever the applicant or licensee is practicing dentistry on

01 a living patient who is also present; the board may include in the agreement an 02 expiration date or provide that the agreement remains in effect until reviewed by 03 the board .
