01 "An Act making an appropriation for relief of the 1997 fishery disaster in Bristol                                      
02 Bay and on the Kuskokwim River; and providing for an effective date."                                                   
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
04    * Section 1.  FINDINGS.  The legislature finds that the following communities were                                 
05 adversely affected by the 1997 fishery disaster in the Bristol Bay and Kuskokwim River                                  
06 regions:                                                                                                                
07   (1)  Bristol Bay region:  Aleknagik, Chignik, Chignik Lagoon, Chignik Point,                                          
08 Clarks Point, Dillingham, Egegik, Ekuk, Ekwok, Igiugig, Iliamna, Ivanof Bay, King Salmon,                               
09 Kokhanok, Koliganek, Levelock, Manokotak, Naknek, New Stuyahok, Newhalen, Pedro Bay,                                    
10 Perryville, Pilot Point, Port Alsworth, Port Heiden, Portage Creek, South Naknek, Togiak,                               
11 Twin Hills, and Ugashik;                                                                                                
12   (2)  Kuskokwim River region:  Akiachak, Akiak, Aniak, Atmautluak, Bethel,                                             
13 Chefornak, Chuathbaluk, Crooked Creek, Eek, Goodnews Bay, Kasigluk, Kipnuk, Kongiganak,                                 
14 Kwethluk, Kwigillingok, Lower Kalskag, Napakiak, Napaskiak, Nunapitchuk, Oscarville,                                    

01 Quinhagak, Red Devil, Sleetmute, Stony River, Tuluksak, Tuntutuliak, and Upper Kalskag.                                 
02    * Sec. 2.  The sum of $9,300,000 is appropriated, $7,000,000 from federal funds and                                
03 $2,300,000 from the general fund, for allocation among the following departments for the                                
04 purposes described in the amounts listed:

17    * Sec. 3.   The appropriation made by this Act lapses June 30, 1999.                                               
18    * Sec. 4.  This Act takes effect immediately under AS 01.10.070(c).
