01 "An Act relating to the qualifications of the state forester."                                                          
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03    * Section 1.  AS 41.17.020(b) is amended to read:                                                                  
04  (b)  The division shall be headed by a director who shall be the state forester,                                      
05 appointed to the partially exempt service in accordance with law by the commissioner,                                   
06 from a list of two or more candidates submitted by the board.   The commissioner                                       
07 shall solicit and consider recommendations of the Alaska Fire Chiefs Association                                        
08 or successor organization when reviewing the candidates submitted by the board.                                        
09 The commissioner may reject all candidates, in which case the board shall submit a                                      
10 new list.  The state forester shall  have                                                                              
11   (1)  a bachelor's or higher degree in forest management and at least                                                 
12 three years of field experience in forestry; or                                                                         
13   (2)  at least eight years of professional work experience as a forester                                             
14 [BE A NATURAL RESOURCES LAND MANAGER WITH GENERALLY                                                                     

01 ACCEPTED EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIALS, FAMILIAR AND EXPERIENCED                                                              
02 WITH THE RENEWABLE AND NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES AND THE                                                                   
03 VALUES OF FOREST LAND AND THE PRODUCTS, BENEFITS, AND SERVICES                                                          
04 OBTAINED FROM THEM].
