01 "An Act relating to attendance at a public school on a part-time basis."                                                
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                               
03    * Section 1.  AS 14.03 is amended by adding a new section to read:                                                 
04  Sec. 14.03.095.  Part-time school attendance.  (a)  Except as provided in (b)                                       
05 of this section, a governing body shall, upon request, allow a child, including a child                                 
06 who is also enrolled at a private school, is a correspondence student, or is being home                                 
07 schooled, to enroll as a part-time student in the district.                                                             
08  (b)  A governing body is not required to allow part-time enrollment if                                                
09   (1)  the enrollment would be denied even if the enrollee were a full-time                                            
10 student; or                                                                                                             
11   (2)  the enrollment would result in an expenditure of public funds for                                               
12 the direct benefit of a private educational institution.                                                                
13  (c)  Part-time enrollment under this section does not constitute attendance for                                       
14 the purposes of AS 14.30.010(a).
