00SENATE BILL NO. 279 01 "An Act relating to salmon classics and race classics." 02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 03 * Section 1. AS 05.15.100(a) is amended to read: 04  (a) The department may issue a permit to a municipality or qualified 05 organization. The permit gives the municipality or qualified organization the privilege 06 of conducting bingo, raffles and lotteries, pull-tab games, ice classics, race classics, 07 rain classics, goose classics, mercury classics, deep freeze classics, mushing 08 sweepstakes, canned salmon classics, salmon classics, king salmon classics, dog 09 mushers' contests, snow machine classics, fish derbies, and contests of skill. 10 * Sec. 2. AS 05.15.115(c) is amended to read: 11  (c) A permittee may not contract with more than one operator at a time to 12 conduct the same type of activity. For the purposes of this subsection, bingo games, 13 raffles, lotteries, pull-tab games, ice classics, race classics, rain classics, goose classics, 14 mercury classics, deep freeze classics, mushing sweepstakes, canned salmon classics,

01 salmon classics, king salmon classics, dog mushers' contests, snow machine classics, 02 fish derbies, and contests of skill are each a different type of activity. 03 * Sec. 3. AS 05.15.180(b) is amended to read: 04  (b) With the exception of raffles, lotteries, bingo games, pull-tab games, race 05 classics, rain classics, goose classics, mercury classics, deep freeze classics, snow 06 machine classics, mushing sweepstakes, canned salmon classics, salmon classics, king 07 salmon classics, an activity may not be licensed under this chapter unless it existed in 08 the state in substantially the same form and was conducted in substantially the same 09 manner before January 1, 1959. A snow machine classic may not be licensed under 10 this chapter unless it has been in existence for at least five years before the licensing. 11 * Sec. 4. AS 05.15.690(40) is amended to read: 12  (40) "salmon classic" means a game of chance, to be operated and 13 administered by the 14  (A) United Fishermen of Alaska, in which a prize of money is 15 awarded for the closest guess of the total number of salmon harvested 16 commercially statewide, as determined by the Department of Fish and Game, 17 during a certain period of time; 18  (B) Seward Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors' 19 Bureau, in which prizes are awarded for the closest guess or guesses of the 20 weight of the fish officially designated winner of the Seward Silver Salmon 21 Derby Classic; or 22  (C) Sterling Area Senior Citizen's, Inc., in which a prize of 23 money is awarded for the closest guess of the total number of sockeye 24 salmon crossing the counter operated by the Alaska Department of Fish 25 and Game on the Kenai River as of a certain day and time; 26 * Sec. 5. AS 05.15.690 is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 27  (45) "race classic" means a game of chance where prizes are awarded 28 for the closest guess or guesses of the official winning times of a human race or races, 29 and is limited to the Mt. Marathon Race Classic operated and administered by the 30 Seward Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors' Bureau. 31 * Sec. 6. Section 2, ch. 13, SLA 1995, is repealed and reenacted to read:

Section 6, ch. 13, SLA 1995, is repealed and reenacted to read: 18  Sec. 6. AS 05.15.180(b) is repealed and reenacted to read: 19  (b) With the exception of raffles, lotteries, bingo games, pull-tab games, race 20 classics, rain classics, goose classics, mercury classics, deep freeze classics, snow 21 machine classics, canned salmon classics, salmon classics, king salmon classics, and 22 other activities authorized under AS 05.15.100(b), an activity may not be licensed 23 under this chapter unless it existed in the state in substantially the same form and was 24 conducted in substantially the same manner before January 1, 1959.
