00HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 9                                                                                                  
01 Relating to Alaska Garden Week.                                                                                         
02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:                                                                         
03  WHEREAS gardening instills in all Alaskans a greater appreciation of nature, the                                       
04 values of conservation, pollution control, and enhancement of the environment; and                                      
05  WHEREAS this awareness and appreciation heightens each citizen's sense of                                              
06 responsibility for and trusteeship of this great state; and                                                             
07  WHEREAS gardening efforts bring beauty to the communities and promote individual                                       
08 and community pride; and                                                                                                
09  WHEREAS gardening has established and continues to sustain more than $28,000,000                                       
10 in horticultural businesses in this state; and                                                                          
11  WHEREAS the Alaska State Federation of Garden Clubs, and the University of                                             
12 Alaska Cooperative Extension, and Alaska Master Gardeners have provided inspiration,                                    
13 valuable information, guidelines, and growing tips for home gardeners enabling residents of                             
14 our communities to reap the pleasures of personally growing and then witnessing the beauty                              

01 of the flowers, trees, shrubs, lawns, or vegetable gardens they have planted;                                           
02  BE IT RESOLVED that, in order to recognize the importance of gardening to the                                          
03 state, the Alaska State House of Representatives declares June 4 - 10, 1995, to be Alaska                               
04 Garden Week; and be it                                                                                                  
05  FURTHER RESOLVED that, through observance of Alaska Garden Week, the Alaska                                            
06 State House of Representatives encourages all Alaskans to recognize the importance of                                   
07 gardening to our economy, enhancement of neighborhoods, enhancement of mental and                                       
08 physical well-being, and promotion of civic pride throughout the Great Land.
