01 "An Act relating to marine safety training and education programs."                                                     
02 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
03    * Section 1.  INTENT.  (a)  It is the intent of this Act to identify a source of funds that                          
04 may be used to fund marine safety training and education programs for commercial fishermen                              
05 in order to protect commercial fishermen from injury or death arising from commercial fishing                           
06 activities.                                                                                                             
07  (b)  This Act does not create a dedicated fund.                                                                        
08    * Sec. 2.  AS 23.35.060 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                               
09  (b)  The legislature may appropriate 50 percent of the income earned by the                                           
10 state on the balance of the fishermen's fund for grants to the Alaska Marine Safety                                     
11 Education Association for marine safety training and education programs for                                             
12 commercial fishermen.
