01 "An Act defining the scope of the responsibility of the Department of Natural                                           
02 Resources for regulating the development of the mineral resources of the state."                                        
03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA:                                                                
04    * Section 1.  AS  27.05.010 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:                                           
05  (b)  The department is the lead agency for all matters relating to the                                                
06 development and regulation of mining.  Before a state agency takes action that may                                      
07 directly or indirectly affect the development or management of mineral resources, the                                   
08 agency shall consult with and draw upon the mining expertise of the department.
