00HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 6 01 Proposing amendments to the Constitution of the State of Alaska limiting the 02 number of terms a person may serve in the legislature. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. Article II, sec. 3, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended to read: 05  SECTION 3. ELECTION AND TERMS. Legislators shall be elected at 06 general elections. Their terms begin on the fourth Monday of the January 07 following election unless otherwise provided by law. The term of representatives 08 shall be two years, and the term of senators, four years. One-half of the senators shall 09 be elected every two years. However, no person may serve more than four full 10 terms as a representative and two full terms as a senator. This limitation does 11 not apply to partial terms. 12 * Sec. 2. Article XV, Constitution of the State of Alaska, is amended by adding a new 13 section to read: 14  SECTION 29. TENURE OF LEGISLATORS. The 1994 amendment limiting

01 the number of years a person may serve as a legislator (Section 3 of Article II) applies 02 only to terms beginning after the effective date of the amendment. 03 * Sec. 3. The amendments proposed by this resolution shall be placed before the voters of 04 the state at the next general election in conformity with art. XIII, sec. 1, Constitution of the 05 State of Alaska, and the election laws of the state.
