00HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 29 01 Relating to the military operations areas environmental impact statement of the 02 United States Air Force. 03 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 WHEREAS on July 9, 1993, the 11th Air Force (Alaska based United States Air Force 05 units) announced a decision to prepare an environmental impact statement to analyze proposed 06 modifications to and creation of special use airspace in Alaska; and 07 WHEREAS the air force is committed to a balance between the necessity of training 08 pilots for any contingency while remaining sensitive to Alaska's environment; and 09 WHEREAS the air force has elected to actively involve the citizens of Alaska early 10 in the process of preparing the environmental impact statement and is genuinely seeking public 11 comments and ideas; and 12 WHEREAS it is expected that the proposed actions of the air force relating to the 13 special use airspace will not increase overall flying in the state, will not preclude public access 14 to any airspace, will greatly enhance flight safety for civil and military aircraft, and will save

01 taxpayers' money; 02 BE IT RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature affirms that Alaska offers 03 tremendous, diverse, and realistic flight training opportunities and welcomes the United States 04 Air Force in the state; and be it 05 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Alaska State Legislature endorses the proposal of 06 the United States Air Force and commends the air force for the open, professional, and public-minded manner in 07 which the military operations areas environmental impact statement is being 08 prepared. 09 A COPY of this resolution shall be sent to Lieutenant General Joseph W. Ralston, 10 Commander, Alaskan Command, Elmendorf Air Force Base.
