00HOUSE BILL NO. 242 01 "An Act relating to dangerous dogs and to municipal classifications and 02 limitations based on the breed of a dog." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 03.55 is amended by adding new sections to read: 05 Sec. 03.55.080. CLASSIFICATION OR LIMITATION BASED ON BREED. 06 (a) A municipality may not classify a breed of dog as vicious under AS 03.55.010 - 07 03.55.020 or for another purpose. 08 (b) A municipality may not establish by ordinance or other method a 09 prohibition or other limitation on a dog or the dog's owner if the prohibition or other 10 limitation is based on the breed of the dog. 11 Sec. 03.55.090. IDENTIFICATION OF DANGEROUS DOGS. A municipality 12 that has the authority to license, impound, or dispose of animals may establish a 13 uniform identifiable collar to be worn at all times by a dog determined by the 14 municipality to be a danger to the public. The municipality may also require the
01 owner of the dog to conspicuously display a sign on the owner's property that declares 02 that a dangerous dog lives on the property. If the municipality provides the collar or 03 sign to the owner, the municipality may charge the owner a reasonable fee for the 04 collar or sign.
