00SENATE CS FOR HOUSE BILL NO. 232 (RES) 01 "An Act relating to a bow hunting tag and bow hunting safety; and providing 02 for an effective date." 03 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF ALASKA: 04 * Section 1. AS 16.05.110 is amended to read: 05  Sec. 16.05.110. COMPOSITION OF FUND. The fish and game fund shall be 06 made up of the following money and other money the legislature appropriates, which 07 shall be deposited and retained in the fund until expended: 08  (1) money received from the sale of state sport fishing, hunting, and 09 trapping licenses, special permits, bow hunting tags, and waterfowl conservation tags 10 purchased by hunters; 11  (2) proceeds received from the sale of furs, skins, and specimens taken 12 by predator hunters and other employees; 13  (3) money received in settlement of a claim or loss caused by damage 14 to the fish and game resources of the state;

01  (4) money received from federal, state, or other governmental unit, or 02 from a private donor for fish and game purposes; 03  (5) interest earned upon money in the fund; 04  (6) money from any other source. 05 * Sec. 2. AS 16.05.340(a) is amended by adding a new paragraph to read: 06  (25) Bow hunting tag. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .$7 07 A person may not engage in bow hunting in a bow hunting only area or during a bow 08 hunting only season without having the current year's bow hunting tag attached to the 09 person's hunting license and in the person's actual possession, unless that person 10  (A) qualifies for a $5 license fee under (6) of this subsection; 11  (B) is a resident under the age of 16 or over the age of 59; 12  (C) is a disabled veteran eligible for a free license under 13 AS 16.05.341. 14 * Sec. 3. AS 16.55.010 is amended to read: 15  Sec. 16.55.010. DUTIES OF DEPARTMENT. The Department of Fish and 16 Game shall 17  (1) assist in developing and coordinating activities involving private 18 organizations relating to shooting and firearms; 19  (2) develop a hunting safety program, including bow hunting safety, 20 for the people of the state; 21  (3) establish a program to assist in the planning, construction, and 22 operation of public shooting ranges. 23 * Sec. 4. AS 16.55.020 is amended to read: 24  Sec. 16.55.020. POWERS OF DEPARTMENT. In the discharge of its duties 25 under AS 16.55.010, the Department of Fish and Game may 26  (1) provide, through a departmental coordinator, technical assistance to 27 municipalities, communities, and organizations; 28  (2) make grants to municipalities and organizations as provided in 29 AS 16.55.030 to 30  (A) [TO] develop and operate public shooting ranges and 31 facilities; and

01  (B) [TO] operate programs involving education and training in 02 the safe use of firearms and hunting bows. 03 * Sec. 5. This Act takes effect January 1, 1995.
